We Redeemed the Rain by Ashley Dill is a recent 5-star read of mine.
It is the first book in the Meadowbrook Ranch series and the only one I have read so far, although the second book, We Danced Among Shadows, is on my May TBR.
Bea is an exhausted singer/songwriter wanting to get her rhythm back. Tag is the owner of Meadowbrook Ranch, which is struggling to stay afloat. For years, as children, Bea and Tag were pen pals. Bea decides to return to Meadowbrook Ranch to find her songwriting voice again, escape the pressures of the music industry, and potentially reconnect with her old friend. Things don’t go quite as swimmingly as she thought they would when she finds Tag out on the ranch. Past trauma haunts Tag and Bea can’t seem to figure out what’s wrong.
Tag prefers solitude and constant work and uses it as a shield from his childhood trauma. Enduring childhood sexual abuse, he feels worthless and broken.
Bea used to be able to find music in anything and everything, but she’s lost that edge.
Together, they redeem each other’s stories. Stories of redemption are my absolute favorites because of Christ’s redemption. Stories like these give a glimpse into people’s real-life stories and the redemption that Christ offers.
We Redeemed the Rain tackles the idea of finding people to lean on, mental health struggles, workplace pressures, and childhood sexual abuse.
